First Grade - Homework
Kindergarten is designed to give students the opportunity to grow academically and socially. Standards focus on early literacy skills and number sense, but students are given the opportunity to read and write at their ability level. Each week teachers plan and offer activity centers that allow students to explore and master many of the science, social studies, math, and ELA standards.
There is a strong focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing in order to prepare students for first grade. The most important aspect of Kindergarten is the way teachers make it a fun learning experience.
First grade: Reading and writing are taught using a workshop approach that is designed to be differentiated so students are able to feel successful while acquiring early literacy skills. Phonics is taught explicitly and embedded throughout the English Language Arts program.
